The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is a Chinese house. It is one of the first Chinese houses built outside of China. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is located in Parian, Cebu City. The first owner of the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is Chinese, that is why the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is a Chinese house, it has the structure and the same materials used to build a Chinese house. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House has many artifacts and paintings of the past. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is a very interesting place to visit. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is made out of stoned-wall and the ground floor is wood-paneled while the second floor is tiled-rood. Only a few buildings in the city like the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House survived.
The Western influences that I have seen in the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House are the dresses and the artifacts. The dresses the Filipinos wore during that time is the Filipiniaña which is influenced by the Spaniards. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is not really western influenced but more on Chinese-Filipino influences, but since the Filipinos are influenced by the Spaniards, There are western influences inside the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House, just like the Filipiniaña. The Filipiniaña was influenced from the Spaniards, which makes it western influenced.
The Yap-San Diego Ancestral house reminds us the way the Filipinos and Chinese lived before and how much the Western or Spaniards influenced us Filipinos. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House reminds us the way the Chinese lived when they went to the Philippines. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House tells us how the Chinese built their houses and what they brought to the Philippines. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House shows us the culture and the live style of the Chinese, and Filipinos in the past. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House allows us to relate our current way of living and culture to the Filipinos and Chinese way of living and their culture in the past. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is called "Balay nga Bato ug Kahoy" by the locals because it is made out of coral stones and wood. The house is a Chinese house but has Filipino culture in it. Many Filipinos has Chinese blood so maybe most of us can learn about the culture and the way of living of our ancestors. The Yap-San Diego Ancestral house can tell us a lot about our ancestors past and allows us to be able to relate to it.
As a Cebuano, I can show appreciation to the culture, the traditions and ideals of the old and new generations of Cebuanos by going to the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House and show respect and learn the history of our ancestors. As a person in community, I can show appreciation to the culture by respecting it and showing honor and respect to the past Filipinos and their lifestyle. As an Ateneo Hearter, I would show honor and respect to the artifacts, history, and ancestors. And as a student, I would research about the culture and traditions of our ancestors and learn more about it and tell people the lifestyle of the Filipinos and Chinese in the past and write blogs, papers about it to let everyone know about the culture and traditions of our ancestors.
